“Land Art” is an avant-garde art form that has emerged in the USA in the late 1960s and influenced all the western countries in the 1970s. We can think of this art form as the intervention of man to nature’s vast spaces. We can examine the artistic works qualified as “nature art” under two thoughts. In the first one, artistic material is in a harmonious work with nature. While in the second one, a transmission from nature to art is present.

Dressing Nature

“Land Art” is an avant-garde art form that has emerged in the USA in the late 1960s and influenced all the western countries in the 1970s. We can think of this art form as the intervention of man to nature’s vast spaces.

We can examine the artistic works qualified as “nature art” under two thoughts. In the first one, artistic material is in a harmonious work with nature. While in the second one, a transmission from nature to art is present.

In the work harmonious with nature, the way of artistic forming with the thought “art is for nature” has been chosen. In this project, taking this thought into consideration, we are planning to realize an interactive work in harmony with nature. While aiming to have natural fibers obtained from plants such as cotton, linen, cannabis, sisal and jute reunite with nature, we want to observe the attitude of synthetic fibers like polyester and polyamide in nature.

With this aim, waste textiles in textile factories will be randomly brought together and taken to a journey through time in nature. Because the fibers’ endurances are different to natural events such as rain, wind and sun, nature will be symbolically put under protection with the weavings that will be realized and also the artistic effect of time will be observed. The thought “art is for nature” will be emphasized once more with participants.

1- Collecting waste textiles

2- Making shreds out of waste textiles and creating balls out of them

3- Preparatory work in the determined area

4- “Land art” work with participants
